Colusa County will offer residents the opportunity to dispose of old tires at no cost during Tire Amnesty Days in March. The event is sponsored by the county and the Rural Counties’ Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority, aiming to reduce illegal dumping and promote proper tire disposal.
“Dumping tires illegally creates serious environmental and health risks for our county. By hosting this Tire Amnesty event, we’re giving residents a simple, safe way to clear out their old tires and do their part in keeping our community healthy,” said Colusa County Public Works Director, Colt Esenwein.
Tire drop-off will be available every Saturday in March—on the 7th, 14th, 15th, 21st, and 28th—from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Colusa County Road Department located at 5714 E Street in Williams. The program is open only to Colusa County residents. Each resident may bring up to nine passenger car or truck tires without rims; commercial and agricultural tires are not accepted. Those needing to transport more than nine but up to twenty tires can request a Transportation Exemption by contacting Colusa County Public Works at (530) 458-0466.
Proper tire disposal helps prevent mosquito breeding grounds, reduces fire hazards, and conserves landfill space. It also contributes to maintaining clean neighborhoods. Residents can avoid disposal fees while supporting environmental health.
The event is funded by a grant from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). Funding is limited, so free tire acceptance may end early if capacity is reached.
