The Colusa County Department of Public Works has started the design phase for the reconstruction of Sites–Lodoga Road, an important east–west corridor linking the Sites area with Lodoga. The road has been in need of repair for several years and is now moving toward a full rebuild.
To begin this process, NCE, a consultant hired by the department, will soon carry out Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) testing along the entire project route. GPR technology estimates pavement thickness by sending signals into the roadway and analyzing how they reflect from different layers such as asphalt, concrete, base material, and soil. The collected data will be used to generate visual graphs and tables that show pavement thickness throughout the project area. This approach offers more comprehensive information than single core samples.
A truck-mounted GPR unit will be used for this work. Residents may notice this vehicle making several passes on Sites–Lodoga Road as it gathers data to support a Full Depth Reclamation design.
Funding for this project comes from SB-1 Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account (RMRA) funds. The goal is to improve as much of the roadway as possible using these resources.
