Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who represents California’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted on his Twitter account about the closure of the Roseburg Weed Veneer Plant and emphasized the importance of reauthorizing Secure Rural Schools for Northern Californians.

On December 5, 2025, LaMalfa addressed the impact of a major local employer shutting down, stating, “I’m saddened to hear of the closure of the Roseburg Weed Veneer Plant. This mill supported generations of families and provided good-paying jobs that kept this area strong. Its loss will be deeply felt, not just by the workers and their families, but across the North State. Mills”.

Later that day, he highlighted legislative priorities for his region with another post: “Reauthorizing Secure Rural Schools is crucial for Northern Californians. Here’s a breakdown of its impact: https://t.co/fqfgAdZiDu”. Doug LaMalfa has served as a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 1st District since 2013 after succeeding Mike Thompson. He previously held office in both chambers of California’s state legislature before joining Congress.
He was born in Oroville, California in 1960 and continues to reside there.
LaMalfa graduated from California Polytechnic State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
