Congressman Doug LaMalfa, representing California's First Congressional District, has reintroduced the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act, known as H.R. 2202. This proposed legislation aims to prohibit federal funding for gender transition procedures and restricts federal healthcare facilities and providers from offering such services.
"Taxpayers should never be forced to fund gender reassignment surgeries and treatments," stated Rep. LaMalfa. "The End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act puts an end to the misuse of federal dollars on these controversial procedures, protecting taxpayers from being complicit in this radical agenda." He expressed gratitude towards Senator Roger Marshall for supporting the initiative to ensure taxpayer money is directed towards essential healthcare priorities.
Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., representing Kansas, introduced a companion bill in the Senate. "After years of radical gender ideology under the Biden Administration, it’s time for a return to common sense," said Senator Marshall. He emphasized that a significant portion of Americans oppose using taxpayer funds for gender transition procedures.
Matt Sharp, Senior Counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), supported the legislation by stating, "There are only two sexes–male and female–and denying this biological truth hurts real people." He commended both Sen. Marshall and Rep. LaMalfa for their efforts in introducing the bill.
The background information highlights that Congressman LaMalfa had previously introduced similar legislation during past congressional sessions. The U.S. Department of Defense reportedly spent $15 million on gender transition procedures from 2016 to 2021 for 1,892 service members. Additionally, twenty-five states along with D.C. have Medicaid policies covering transgender-related healthcare.
The bill does not apply restrictions on federal funds used for treating individuals with medically verifiable disorders of sex development.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa serves as Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and represents several counties in California's First Congressional District.
