Congressman Doug LaMalfa has announced that the Spring 2024 Congressional Art Competition is now open to all high school students in the 1st District. The theme for this year's competition is "Dams & Lakes for Goodness Sakes - Storing water for flood & food". The deadline to apply is Friday, April 26th.

In a statement, Congressman LaMalfa expressed his enthusiasm for the competition, stating, "I am pleased to announce that this year’s Congressional Art Competition is open and this year’s theme is 'Dams & Lakes for Goodness Sakes - Storing water for flood & food'. The Congressional Art Competition is a nice opportunity for talented young adults to compete to showcase their abilities to the entire country, and I look forward to viewing all the great submissions."

The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside other contest winners from Congressional districts nationwide. The winner will also receive two tickets from Southwest Airlines to fly to Washington, D.C. to view their art in the exhibition and attend a reception in their honor at the U.S. Capitol.

Congressman LaMalfa, a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, including Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba Counties, emphasized the significance of the competition, highlighting it as a source of optimism and positivity in the midst of the legislative proceedings.
