Today, Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) responded to President Biden’s unveiled final electric vehicle mandate rule. The mandate would require 67% of new light-duty vehicles and 46% of medium-duty vehicles to be electric by 2032.
In his response, Congressman LaMalfa expressed concerns about the mandate, stating, "The average American does not want, and cannot afford, a new electric vehicle." He criticized the mandate, saying it would tie the auto industry to the Chinese Communist Party and could harm the domestic energy and auto-manufacturing industries. He also highlighted issues with infrastructure and power generation to support the rule. Congressman LaMalfa added, "Demand for EV’s is falling now, mandating their purchase by eliminating the supply of vehicles people want is un-American. I will be looking into every possible avenue to stop it.”
Congressman Doug LaMalfa represents California’s First Congressional District, which includes Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba Counties.
