“I’m pleased to announce that this year’s winner of the Congressional Art Competition is Las Plumas High School senior Kayla Grozea. Her piece, “Soaring Above Lake Oroville Dam”, beautifully captured this year’s theme, “Dams & Lakes for Goodness Sakes - Storing water for flood & food”. This piece is a testament to the long and storied history Lake Oroville has in Butte County and will represent the North State in the halls of the Capitol, for visitors and my colleagues to view on the way to the House floor,” said Congressman LaMalfa.
The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol along with other contest winners from all other Congressional districts nationwide. In addition to having their art exhibited in the Capitol, the winner also receives two tickets (for themselves and one guardian) from Southwest Airlines to fly to Washington, D.C. and participate in viewing their art at the exhibition. A reception will be held in honor of all Congressional Art Competition Winners at the U.S. Capitol.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District which includes Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
