Congressman LaMalfa Votes for National Defense Authorization Act
June 14, 2024
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) voted in favor of H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.
“House Republicans’ Defense Authorization Act focuses on threats we face: the increasing use of drone warfare, the escalating threats from China and Iran, as well as the increasing instability in the Middle East. Republicans address lagging military recruiting by eliminating DEI programs and stopping Biden’s attempts to institute the ‘Green New Deal’ in the military. Importantly, the bill increases pay to our service members, improves housing, and prioritizes veterans’ services,” said Congressman LaMalfa.
The legislation includes several significant provisions:
- An additional $55 million for upgraded mission operations at Beale Air Force Base.
- Funding for continued use with potential expansion of operations at Sierra Army Depot.
- Increased funding for drone countermeasures and anti-drone technologies, hypersonic missiles, offensive and defensive cyberattacks, and high-energy laser weapons to address potential near-term conflicts with Beijing.
- $650 million allocated to priority projects across the Indo-Pacific region to enhance security and logistics capacity.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California’s First Congressional District, which includes Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba Counties.
