Colusa County expressed disappointment over Governor Gavin Newsom's recent visit, which was part of his statewide tour of "red" counties. The county officials stated that the visit lacked coordination with local representatives and missed a chance for meaningful dialogue on issues impacting rural California.
In 2019, the Colusa County Board of Supervisors invited Governor Newsom to engage with local stakeholders on critical matters such as water management, agriculture, and economic development. Despite this outreach, they never received a response. The officials found it disheartening that the governor visited without engaging those who serve Colusa County.
The visit was described as hurriedly assembled and lacking transparency or coordination. According to Colusa County Administrative Officer Wendy Tyler, it did not reflect values of collaboration essential for addressing challenges in rural communities. Tyler stated, "This visit...does not reflect the values of collaboration and mutual respect that are essential for addressing the challenges facing rural communities."
Tyler emphasized that if Governor Newsom is interested in constructive dialogue, they would welcome him for a meaningful conversation with local leaders from various sectors. She noted that together they could address residents' concerns and find solutions to challenges faced by rural California.
"We remain committed to advocating for the people of Colusa County," Tyler said, expressing hope for future collaboration with the governor's administration.
