The Colusa County Board of Supervisors has appointed Matthew R. Beauchamp as the new District Attorney for Colusa County. Mr. Beauchamp, who previously held the position of Chief Deputy District Attorney, was officially sworn in on October 31st after Brendan Farrell's appointment to the Colusa County Superior Court.
Supervisor Gary Evans, Chair of the Colusa County Board of Supervisors, stated, "Mr. Beauchamp’s knowledge of the community and the position, having previously served as District Attorney, make him the logical choice to serve Colusa County." He added that they are confident in Mr. Beauchamp's leadership to maintain consistency in justice within the community.
Mr. Beauchamp brings over 39 years of legal experience to his new role, including a significant track record in prosecution and office management. His expertise covers complex criminal cases such as felony homicide and manslaughter, asset forfeiture, and wildlife-related cases. He has been recognized by the California District Attorneys Association as California Fish and Wildlife Prosecutor of the Year.
Before joining the Colusa County District Attorney's Office, Mr. Beauchamp practiced law privately for 16 years with a focus on defense litigation and civil matters like asset forfeiture and personal injury cases. His experience managing both private practice and public office budgets provides him with strong skills in administration and fiscal responsibility.
In expressing his interest in becoming District Attorney, Mr. Beauchamp highlighted his commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies and serving Colusa County residents with dedication. “I am honored by the trust placed in me by the Board of Supervisors and look forward to continuing to serve this community with integrity and dedication,” he stated.
City of Colusa Police Chief Joshua Fitch provided a letter supporting Mr. Beauchamp's appointment. Mr. Beauchamp officially took on his responsibilities on October 31st, leading efforts to ensure fair justice administration for all residents of Colusa County.
