Rep. Doug LaMalfa, a Republican from Richvale, issued a statement in response to President Biden's executive order that permanently bans new offshore oil and gas development in certain U.S. coastal waters.

LaMalfa criticized the decision, stating, "President Biden’s eleventh-hour ban on offshore energy development is a reckless move that puts America’s energy future at risk. This political stunt will cost thousands of hardworking Americans their jobs, drive up energy costs for families, farmers, and industries already struggling with inflation, and make us more reliant on foreign countries for the resources we need."

He further argued that by using laws to hinder domestic energy production, the administration is favoring activist demands over American workers' needs and national security. He described the shutdown of critical energy projects as an attempt to limit the incoming administration's capabilities.

"In a few short weeks we will be working with a new administration to overhaul these policies so that we can strengthen our energy independence, lower costs for families, and create good-paying jobs here at home," LaMalfa added.
