Congressman Doug LaMalfa has expressed his support following the House's approval of H.R. 28, known as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The legislation aims to ensure fairness in women's sports by mandating that school athletics adhere to Title IX based on a person's chromosomes and sex at birth.
"This passage is significant win for fairness and integrity in women’s sports," stated Rep. LaMalfa. "This bill ensures that female athletes can compete on an even playing field, staying true to the original purpose of the Title IX."
LaMalfa emphasized the importance of allowing women and girls to succeed in sports through their own efforts without competing against biological males. He highlighted that this legislation protects female athletes' rights, including privacy and safety in facilities like bathrooms and locker rooms.
"It’s a straightforward matter and we’re pleased to be taking action to protect the future of women’s athletics," he added.
Rep. LaMalfa serves as Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and represents California's First Congressional District, which includes several counties such as Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, and Yuba.
