Colusa County is hosting a cooling center to support residents through the upcoming heat wave. The decision comes as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees.
"We understand that extreme heat can pose serious health risks, especially for our vulnerable populations," said a county spokesperson. "Our goal is to provide a safe and cool environment for those who need it."
The cooling center will be located at the Colusa Community Center and will be open from 10 AM to 8 PM daily until the heatwave subsides. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this resource, particularly if they do not have access to air conditioning at home.
In addition to providing a cool space, the center will offer water and light refreshments. Medical personnel will also be on hand in case of emergencies related to heat exposure.
Local authorities advise residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities during peak heat hours, and check on neighbors who might be more susceptible to the high temperatures.
"We want everyone in our community to stay safe during this period of extreme weather," added the spokesperson. "Please take all necessary precautions and utilize the resources available."
For more information about the cooling center or other services provided by Colusa County during this time, residents can visit the county's official website or contact local officials directly.
