On February 5, 2025, Congressmen Doug LaMalfa and Sanford D. Bishop announced the re-registration of the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus. They will serve as bipartisan co-chairs for the 119th Congress.
Congressman LaMalfa expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "As a lifelong car enthusiast, I’ve spent most of my life working on cars and know firsthand how important this industry is to so many Americans. I’m happy to co-chair the Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus with Congressman Bishop, pushing back against overreach and keeping this passion alive for future car enthusiasts."
Congressman Bishop highlighted the cultural significance of cars in America: "Cars are part of what makes America great. They embody the freedom, technological innovation, and creative spirit of our country. They are everyday workhorses, engineering marvels that we push to the limits in sport and competition, and they are iconic national treasures that continue to be cherished by collectors and enthusiasts." He added his anticipation for collaboration with Congressman LaMalfa "to highlight this important part of Americana which continues to inspire us to build and dream."
The caucus was initially formed in 1996 to acknowledge the contributions of the automotive performance and motorsports industry to the U.S. economy.
Congressman Doug LaMalfa also serves as Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus and represents California’s First Congressional District.
